What to Expect
How is Healing Touch performed?
The practitioner uses hands to perform energy-based techniques to clear, balance and align the energy system. The touch is very light and may or may not actually touch the physical body. Healing Touch uses techniques based on the works of Dr. Brugh Joy, Barbara Brennan, Delores Krieger, Janet Mentgen and other leaders in the field of energy therapy.
What is included in a Healing Touch appointment?
For the first appointment, the client will be asked to provide information such as medical history, medications, self-care practices, current concerns, and personal goals for receiving Healing Touch . The practitioner will discuss all information and determine appropriate goals with the client. All information between client and practitioner is considered confidential.
For each appointment, the practitioner and client will discuss the outcomes of prior Healing Touch sessions and mutually set the treatment plan for the session.
The client is fully clothed and may be covered with a sheet or blanket as needed and lying on a massage table. If the client cannot lie on a massage table, Healing Touch can be given with the client seated in a chair, wheelchair, or lying in a bed.
The practitioner will assess the energy system before and after each session.
Interventions (hand techniques) will be selected according to the client goals and assessment information.
Sessions typically last 1 to 1½ hours. First appointments are 2 hours.
Music and guided imagery are used to help clients relax at the beginning of each session.
At the completion of the appointment, the practitioner will give the client information about the session and ask the client for feedback as to his or her experience during the session. All sessions are documented according to the approved format of the Healing Touch program™.
Self-care recommendations are often given to the client at the end of every session.
All Healing Touch practitioners practice within the Code of Ethics, Scope and Standards of Practice established by the Healing Touch Program™. Referrals to other health care practitioners will be given when client concerns are outside the scope of Healing Touch .
